Surprise #1 – I’m a winner! I was one of several winners during HeyClaire’s Heyclairemas giveaways on Twitter back in December. I was the Day 23 winner – yay! I hadn’t been on Twitter long, so when I saw my handle on my feed, I was like “Wait, what!” Plus, I was still waking up, so I thought I might have been falling back to sleep or something and dreamed it. I was awake, it was real, so the win was a good surprise!
Hold on – “Who is HeyClaire?” you ask. HeyClaire is the YouTube channel/ social media handles of Claire Marshall. I don’t know when I first came across her channel, but I think I subscribed because of her What’s In My Bag video, or maybe a little before that. The style of that video stood out to me and ever since then, I try to catch every video of hers. I like the style, the visuals, the edits, the pace, etc. I also like her personality and how she presents herself.
When I made a YT account for this blog, HeyClaire was one of the first channels I made sure to subscribe to through the BornJennius account. I guess her channel would be lifestyle, because she does beauty videos, but also vlog-type videos and other subjects. I would recommend subscribing to HeyClaire.
Not convinced yet? She has a black cat. Subscribe now.
Surprise #2 – my prize bag came late. I don’t know what happened because this was the first time that I didn’t receive something that I was expecting through the mail. I’m sure she was busy with other things, and it was the holidays, so I’m hoping it was just lost in the shuffle; I’d hate to think that someone stole it or that the post office made a mistake somewhere between here and there, though that could have happened. I waited a few months to contact Claire and she replied right away (another reason to like her, and I felt awkward to say something in the first place). She said she sent them out a while ago, so I checked around on my end. I didn’t find it, so she sent another one, so sweet of her!
Now, on to the sur-prizes!
So, the winners’ prize bags didn’t all have the same things; she had said in a video that some had perfume, makeup, and other things. Mine had makeup. I’m so happy with it too because some of it were things that I have wanted to try, some that I hadn’t been aware of, and ones that will take me out of my comfort zone – a good mix.
BioBelle #After Party Sheet Mask w/ Blueberries & Yogurt
BioBelle #Stay Gorgeous Sheet Mask w/ Almond Oil & Vitamin E
Urban DollKiss Welcome to Korea Masks in $Revital, $Lifting-up, and $Be-light
Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet
Pixi Glow Mud Mask w/ Ginseng & Sea Salt
Julep Konjac Sponge
Sheet masks! I haven’t tried any sheet masks before. I’m excited because sheet masks are something I have wanted to try, but I feel weird about buying them for myself, I guess because it seems like a real pampering thing. I haven’t tried anything by Caudalie yet, so I’m glad to try the Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet – a good moisturizer is something I care about and come on, a sorbet for your face sounds fantastic! I love a good mud mask – that seems like pampering also, but I really like how they soften and clear my skin. The one I used to use was discontinued a while ago and I haven’t found one to replace it, so I’m glad to have the Pixi Glow Mud Mask. I’ve been intrigued by the konjac sponge for some time so I will definitely be using this Julep one.
NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir
Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector in Medium
Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-matte Hydrating Foundation in 05 Warm Porcelain & 70 Pure Beige
Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Cheek Color in OR 02 Mandarin Orange & PK 04 Pale Pink
Ardell Brow Pomade in Medium Brown
The NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir is a product that I hadn’t been aware of but it sounds interesting. The back says it’s a “skin serum and primer.” I haven’t found a primer that I like, but I do like serums. I’ve been hearing of the Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done lately and put it on a wishlist because I liked the liquid foundation of the same line, so I’m very excited for this! And, the shade medium is most likely a good match for me. The Maybelline Dream Velvet in Pure Beige is likely a good match also; I’m not so sure about Warm Porcelain, but that’ll happen at times with giveaway prizes. I haven’t opened it yet, so I’ll look at online swatches or something and maybe pass it on if it looks too light.
The Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Cheek Colors look interesting! The powder comes out through a sponge top? I haven’t used them yet. I think the Pale Pink will go well with my skintone, but I’m not sure about the Mandarin Orange – I tend to shy away from orange shades on my face. I might have to just suck it up and give it a go, I might like it, but I might end up chickening out and passing it along. I haven’t tried a brow pomade before, so I’m glad to have the Ardell Brow Pomade in Medium Brown to try. And yes, I sometimes count brow products with face products instead of eye products; I think they could go either way.
Face palette: Tarte Poppy Picnic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek
The case is so pretty. It feels very secure and comes with a good-sized mirror on the inside top – very pleased about that. Not so pleasing is that the shade names are printed on a loose transparent sheet that will probably get lost; I don’t know why Tarte does that sometimes because a lot of reviewers and customers find that irritating. For me, I don’t understand going through the process of naming the shades and then making it easy for people to not know the names. I still like Tarte and I’m going to use this palette. The blush, Glisten, is stunning in the pan; I don’t own the NARS Orgasm Blush, but Glisten looks to be similar to it – peachy pink with golden shimmer. The eyeshadow shades are good everyday mattes.
NYX Badunkadunk Lush Lashes Mascara
NYX Stacked Lush Lashes Mascara
Urban Decay Naked 24/7 Glide-On Double-Ended Eye Pencil in Perversion/ Pistol & Darkside/ Blackheart
Tarte SmolderEyes Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner in Olive
Urban Decay Shadow Box
I will never turn down a good eye product! More mascaras to try – good. More eye liners – good. More eyeshadows – gooooood! (The “good”-s were supposed to be read in the voice of Joey from Friends). I’m excited to use all of these, but I’m so happy about the Shadow Box because I’ve wanted the UD eyeshadow Mushroom and it’s one of the shades – yay! They’re all pretty shades, but my eyes are drawn to that blue (hello), the green (hello!), and Tornado (the purple in the top row).
Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipsticks in 20 Electric Pink, 30 Orange Shot, & 45 Vivid Violet
Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Lipsticks in Bachelorette & The New Black
Lipsticks – yes, yes, yes! Okay, liquid lipsticks are scary for me, due to low application skill, and these are not bashful colors either! I’ve already tried the Electric Pink, of course, and I think I might like it. I think I’ll be able to handle this formula. Again, orange – yikes! – but at least Orange Shot is on the reddish orange side so it’s not so scary. That Vivid Violet though… I’ll either step up or chicken out. I should just go for it, right? It’s just color!
These are my first Too Faced lipsticks and I’m definitely going to use them. Bachelorette looks like my kind of pink and The New Black is kind of a vibrant cool-toned orange, I think, so I’ll try it! The casing is a beautiful, weighty, sleek black metal. The brand name is in raised letters up the side. It just feels so good in the hand.
I feel like it was Christmas again!
Claire, if you happen to read this – mahalo – this was and continues to be fun as I try them!
Oh, I am going to have fun with this!
That's a transparency film with the shade names on it.
I taped it to the mirror after this shot.
Electric Pink. Not bad, no?
Wow, there I am!
Go check out HeyClaire’s YouTube – I think her videos are so well-done and enjoyable. I try to catch them all!
P.S. Anything unopened and to be passed on for whatever reason will go to a local women’s shelter or a friend.
