Two goals for the project:

1. To use up products
2. To get used to using certain products

I had two pretty bad breakout spots, at the same time, during this past month and so I went about a week without wearing much makeup at all. I am getting to use up, and used to, more things though.

NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in Pinky Nude: I was using it often. Then I had a clumsy moment when I dropped the wand. On my carpet floor. I tried to clean off the wand and then my thoughts cleared up and said, “Jenn, it’s a cream product. It has been tainted. Let it go.” If I don’t listen to me, who will? So, I let it go. I think it is such a good color on me, but I won’t be repurchasing it because I have many other lip colors to use up and I am not a fan of cream products in general - I am clumsy and am prone to making a mess, especially with the soft creams like the Xtreme Lip Cream.

Benefit They’re Real! Mascara sample: It is drying out, so I think I shall call it done. I liked it for my lashes. It wasn’t clumpy as it thickened my almost non-existent lashes, and I think that was a combination of the brush and the formula. It was a rubber bristle brush that separated lashes well, with a slightly longer row near the tip, which was useful in getting my lower lashes. It doesn’t dry out and flake, but lasts long. I’ll consider buying it in the future; for now, I have several other mascara samples to use and 1.5 full-sized ones. Plus, I would have to think more on if I would buy a non-drugstore mascara, though this one might be worth it. *Adding Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara to the list in its place.

Tarte Maracuja Miracle Foundation Light: I think I have figured out something to do so that this foundation looks more even and just better overall on my skin. Previously, I was using a dense foundation brush with it; foundation would gather a little in the craters of old acne - not a pretty sight. I have since tried the Real Techniques Stippling Brush, in swirling-buffing motions, and I have noticed that this foundation looks good on me when I have done so - I am pleased. I used about a quarter-inch in the last month.

Lip Color Combinations: before this project, I had been using Revlon Strawberry Shortcake on top of Revlon Smoked Peach; I think I can still get this combination to work, but I have since found better pairings for them. The first combination is Sei Bella Sunripened on top of Revlon Smoked Peach; this warms up the peach color just enough to match my skintone better and adds a hint of shine, smoothing out Smoked over the lips more. The second combination is Revlon Strawberry Shortcake on top of Revlon Crush. Shortcake lightens up the burgundy-wine Crush and adds a little bit of blue tone to make more of a plum-fuchsia color, which I like much better (it probably shows better on my lips). And, the texture mix of the Crush stain with the soft buttery Shortcake feels wonderful on my lips and lasts quite a long time (without eating or lots of drinking).

I shall carry on with this project another month. I am satisfied with how it is going so far. I won’t be talking about each product in such depth for each update, as that would be quite a lot! I’m thinking by the end of this project (probably at the end of this calendar year), I will have talked about most, if not all, the products with a bit of detail.

Healthy Go: So Much Food

Twenty-two flights of stairs, that is +five from the week before. Also, I did them with hardly a break between, especially the first 15 of them. Heavy breathing, but no gasping (oh, stop it!).

Let me pause a moment just long enough to wonder: when did I make this into a challenge for myself? And how far does it go?

So, I took a stair tour of a campus building, starting with Tower A (3 flights), onto Tower G (2 flights),  Tower E (5 flights), and then Tower D (4 flights). If you’re paying attention, that tour seems to spell out AGED - I did not do that on purpose. I went up a flight of courtyard stairs that connects to the campus road. I did three flights and then four flights at two other buildings. All of that took about 30 minutes, including some walking in between.

To help keep track of how many flights I’ve climbed, I often take note-pictures if able, like this one which tells me it was Tower E of a certain building, 6th floor (5 flights).

Also this week, I have been room cleaning, including a turning of the mattress - that’s considered light exercise, right? 

Still iffy on the sleeping. I am usually a heavy-sleeper, sometimes a light-sleeper. Lately, it has been more light than heavy. Odd things, noises in the night have been interrupting my sleep and I wake up groggy. Even last night, I didn’t use a sleep aid and went to bed earlier than I have been. Twice in the night, I was woken up by I don’t know what making noise outside my window. Dad woke me up early to go somewhere, but I have already taken a short nap, tempted to take another… I’m going to try my best to stay awake and hopefully sleep early tonight. No crying this week though, none that I remember anyway. Wish me sleep!

The Greek Corner: Beef & Lamb Gyro Sandwich with Fries.
I have wanted to stop by for Greek food for at least a month; I finally did this week. And, it was a good time to go because parking was free that day! I knew it was Columbus Day, but I didn’t know it affected building parking, and I wasn’t the only one a little confused.

My usual: Beef & Lamb Gyro Sandwich. I had fries with it this time, but I usually don’t.

I also had an Apples & Greens smoothie from Jamba Juice. This is the one I get when I want to be “good-er” than I usually am with Jamba choices. I really like this one. It is still more than my daily sugar allowance, so I will have to still be mindful of having one. I didn’t worry about it too much since I was still under the daily calories.

Also, Won Ton Min. Because, Chinese. Chinese food. And a mini hamburger steak. Hey, if someone’s offering to buy me food, I’m eatin’ it.

I went back to using MyFitnessPal this week. I know I haven’t been great with my diet, so I wanted to check back in with the breakdowns, like calories, sugars, etc. I’m not using it to be strict with counting calories and such but just as guideline for what I am eating nutritional-wise and help me get back on (a better) track.

Besides, I’m kind of disinterested in tracking down the exact food and information when I have something that is not already in the MFP database. The exact gyro sandwich that I get from The Greek Corner isn’t in the database, so I used an approximately similar food from the database. The last few days that I’ve logged in the food, I haven’t been consuming enough calories or proteins. Today’s numbers will be over, I think, and I’ll talk more about that in the next section.

I’ve been going over the sugar limit, which is not difficult to do when I drink a lot of calories. So, I have been working on reducing my iced tea drinking. It’s a struggle. I enjoy my iced tea. And, Starbucks has this Blackberry Mojito Tea Lemonade - so good - I knew I shouldn’t have tried it. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem because I don’t go to Starbucks often at all usually. Otherwise, I’m starting to do better on cutting back the iced tea and taking in more water instead.

So Much Food
If Greek food wasn’t enough, how about… Tanioka’s?! Today’s order: one pc. fried chicken, one pc. shrimp tempura, one pc. corned beef hash patty, and two pcs. salmon patty. This lasts me all day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Dad goes to Tanioka’s for me (sometimes I go along) about once a month. These are among my favorite foods. I’ll definitely be hitting the minimum in protein today!

Healthy Go: Well-Watered

This week, I did 17 flights of stairs. That is +3 from the previous week. I had thought to do only 8, because it was hot and humid, and I had a book report presentation to rehearse. Maybe I should have stopped after 8, because that alone made my legs shake after I got up from a rest. How I did 9 more, I do not know. Brain confusion, I suspect. Anyways, I kept hydrated and was fine.

I have taken back up with keeping my water bottle at hand, drinking at least 24 oz a day, and 48 oz on most days.


Is that really all I have to report today?

Yes. Well, I mean, did you want another title about stairs?

Three Horses Down - Me Day 2014

Another birthday celebration of me has come and gone once again. See you all next year!

Just kidding. I’ll write a little more about this.

Pretty quiet to-do birthday this year. One main celebration, dinner with the family. Dad, Mom, Bro, Bro’s girlfriend, and me.

I had the clam chowder for starters, then I enjoyed the Mushroom & Bleu Filet Mignon. I also had a raspberry lemon drop martini. Girlfriend gets automatic points with Mom, as she encourages us to order dessert to share. I had 3 spoons-worth of the butter cake topped with vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce. It was good!

A type aside: when the dessert came, Mom went straight to dividing it up. She took her portion, got a look from Bro and Dad, then offered the first portion to me, realizing we were there for MY birthday! It was fine, I took second portion, but it seemed like a funny classic ESFP moment from my mom - dessert first, daughter later. And… dinner had other moments of hilarity because Girlfriend may be more like Mom than Bro expected, but it’s still early (at least for me) to tell - it’s just exciting to have something with which to make fun of my bro!

Some lovely gifts from the Bro and Bro’s GF - a few goodies to eat (yes, I did share with the parents) and a few more from Sephora! From the brand Philosophy - cleansing things - a brand of which I don’t think I have tried anything before, so I’m excited for that!

In my own mini-celebrations of self, I had my free birthday drink from Starbucks, a Salted Caramel Frappuccino Light - mmm! I redeemed the Sephora birthday gift offer, this year by Makeup Forever. The lipstick and mascara minis are my first MUFE products, so that will be interesting to try. One can pick up the birthday gift in the store without purchasing anything else, as a Beauty Insider program member, but this time I also picked up a new perfume, sort of - I may write about that another time.

I have also ordered my first Vera Bradley bag. VB gives a good birthday discount. I usually get something small, like a notebook, or last year, I used the discount on Mom for something that she picked out. I saw a style that I liked, in a pattern that I really liked, so I made the order. It’ll be arriving later this month.

And then, birthday wishes on the socials’ medias! I know, I’m weird about it - I don’t always let it be posted and such, or sometimes I only let it be posted on the day of, in my timezone, etc. However, birthday greetings and private messages are always welcomed :) so thank you to all of you!

Healthy Go: Aim High, Make the Climb

Here are some things I wrote down!

Last week, before class, I did 10 flights of stairs. I know, more about stairs? It is getting easier, so adding a few flights each time keeps it a challenge for me. I also did 2 sessions of a 15-minute walk.

This past week, I did 14 flights of stairs total, the 2x 15-minute walks, and a little extra walking around. So, it started with a 15-min walk to a 4-storey building. I went up one stairwell, walked through the building, and went down another stairwell. Then I walked over to the adjacent building (they connect at the middle stairwell, the one I had taken down), and went up a third stairwell. I went through the building again to go down the first stairwell. I took a little breather break at the tops.

I walked over to the building where class is held and had a small snack break, then headed for those stairs, completing two rounds there. During the mid-class break, I had an inkling to do 2 more flights, then quickly thought “Nah!” I mean, from a +4 flights already that day, I could say I did a good job. Plus, I still had the second 15-minute walk to do after class.

And, just yesterday, I punched my back with something. I was cleaning something on the floor, forgot that I was near a chest, so when I went to stand up again, the very sharp chest corner reminded me of its presence. It’s not that bad; I suspect there will be a bruise and a little ache for a few days.


Um. Not much change has occurred from the last report.

I have been snacking on some macadamia nuts in place of almonds for now. Good news (to me): Snapea Crisps are back in town and at a good price in one of the stores!

I have not been sleeping well most nights. It’s been a few different factors. I think the main thing has been the… “night thoughts,” I’ll say. I’ve had some cries, and no, they were not related to the month, so don’t even- .

Overall, the monthly measurement check in showed not much change, though what slight changes there were, they were in the negative, so, good.

Aim High, Make the Climb

The stairs at the 2-buildings-connected site has its advantages to other campus stairs I’ve taken so far, in my opinion. They are open-aired with some lattice-pattern openings, and with its location probably, there is a light movement in the air, making it not so hot or have a sense of drudgery. I like that I can walk over and take another stairwell, so with the choice of 3 stairwells easily connected, I like it. And, it has several places, indoor and outdoor, to take a rest between or after stairs.

I think I should start a rating system for building stairs.

While somewhat elegantly articulated, the stairs in the class building is decent. 4 flights of stairs is good. That it is broken up into essentially 3 sections helps keep going up and down from becoming boring, that is good. The downside is that it is hot. The two open sides are semi-enclosed by glass walls, with one side facing west, so that side is hot when I am taking these stairs. Sometimes, there can be good air movement in the stairwell, but when there isn’t any, it is a little miserable. The top tends to have less air movement, so it’s a little like climbing a mountain only to hangout in a sauna. I mean, it’s not that bad, but I am looking for a vista and fresh air at the top of a climb.

I wish I was at the top of a mountain instead. Top of a mountain, with shade overhead, a sweet view, a cool breeze, and a body of water to jump down into. And… no, that’s all I got for now.

The main point is that I choose to take the stairs when possible and safely.
