Get Used Up To It Project

While my makeup stash has grown quite a bit in the last year, I don’t have much compared to those who really get into makeup. Even so, I like to keep my stash manageable and uncluttered; I also like to make good use of things I purchase. It is on the verge of unmanageable, for me, so I thought I would make an effort to use up a few products.

I know, it’s quite a list. Some items will be easy to use up; for others, it will take more time and effort. Items are on the list for a few different reasons, like longevity/ expiration, color, time of possession, amount of product left. Cream and liquid products do not have the longevity that powder and dry products do, so I put those priority on the list. Most of these are products that I like; I usually do a little research into makeup products before I buy them, so I have very few disappointing products, except for color matches. Store lighting, lighting and other camera settings on swatches, matching colors with my own skintone can affect the color perception and trip me up.

The Revlon Colorstay Whipped foundation is one of the top foundation formulas for me; there is about a day or two worth left at the moment, so that will be done soon and I already have a backup waiting. The MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation is also one of my top foundations. I wanted a good foundation for being in a wedding party, tried and liked it, but I’ve had it for a few years now, have made a good dent in it, so I just want to use it up. I will probably repurchase it after I’ve finished this one.

The Rimmel Stay Matte Powder is okay, and that might just be user error; I’m still trying to figure out how to powder well, developing a technique. The Nuance Tinted Moisturizer is good but I got a shade that is a little too dark for me (it’s easier to darken a product that is too light rather than work a product that is too dark). The Revlon Photoready Concealer is okay and that may also be user error, but I have another concealer that seems to work better for me. Milani’s Luminoso is pretty. I like all of the blushes that I have but want to make a good dent in one, so Luminoso is just the one that I chose for current everyday use.

The Maybelline Color Tattoos are creamy products to use up. Besides overall color, I use them as an eyeshadow or eyeliner base. Bad to the Bronze is my least favored color of the Tattoos that I have and I’ve had Audacious Asphalt long enough. I’ve had the Sei Bella Eyeshadows for years and just want to use them up (they are blues and greens).

Mascaras shouldn’t be kept long and Benefit’s They’re Real, while I like the formula, is simply the one that I am currently using. The free sample of it will be retired in about a month and then I might purchase a full size of it. I really like the Physicians Formula eyeliners, but I just need to be using some up, so I chose Pewter. The Sei Bella Definition Brow Pencil has been user error; I am more comfortable using a powder to fill in the brows, I’ve had this for a long time already, so I would like to be done with it.

Revlon’s matte lipstick formula is good, but Smoked Peach is not a good color on me. The same goes with the Strawberry Shortcake lip butter, Sei Bella’s Sun Ripened, and Revlon Crush balm stain - good formulas, not good colors on me. For the NYX lip gloss and lip cream, they are good formulas and good colors, but creamy products that I need to use before they go bad.

Essie’s A Crewed Interest is a pretty light peach color, but the formula has thickened up quickly; I might try a thinner with it, but even so, it’s about halfway done so might as well use it up. China Glaze’s Peachy Keen is… I’m not sure if it’s a good color for me or not, but it’s in about the same state as A Crewed Interest, so I’m going to use it up.
____________________________

With these products, I am able to create a full look, but I may use other products as well, for a special look or to supplement a little change up from this list. Otherwise, my everyday look shall come from the list.

I plan on doing an update in about 30 days, reporting whether or not things are getting used up. Ideally, I’d like to cross off 5 products, but I think at least 3 is more realistic: the Revlon foundation is a given; the Benefit mascara should be retired by then; and NYX’s Pinky Nude might have to be retired by then as well (its scent is starting to change, a usual sign of going bad).

I think I’ll be able to make a good or bigger dent in: the Nuance tinted moisturizer, MAC foundation, Essie nail polish, Revlon Strawberry Shortcake and Smoked Peach (I usually wear these together), and maybe the Rimmel powder.

As to growing my makeup stash, I have already put restrictions on purchasing since June and have done well (it’s not that difficult for me) and so I’ll carry on with it. If/when I do use up something from the list, I don’t have a need/ want to repurchase anything, at least not right away, so that won’t be an issue.

I rarely get into the limited edition collections that brands produce, but if I am very interested in an item or two, and if I have finances for it, I might allow the purchase.

P.S. This is related to what others call a “Project 10 Pan” or “Use It Up/ Declutter Project” in the beauty community, but I don’t know if I can be considered a full member of the beauty community and I don’t care to conform to the usual project conventions.

P.P.S. By the time I’ve posted this, I have already begun. :D

Remembering Megamouth

I held her in my arms. Her last sight on earth was my face.

She was never really mine, but I was hers.
____________________________

Working in the yard one day, a little kitty came to visit. I brought her food and she visited more. She ate and ate and ate. Her meow was full and mighty. A smart kitty, she found my window in the morning and woke me up for her feeding. She had a collar, but no tags. No signs of someone missing a kitty like her.

That was seven years ago.

A storm came to visit. Kitty camped out on our patio, tucked away safely in a corner.

Another cat came to visit late one night. I heard a cat fight and rushed out to check if kitty was okay, being that she was so small. What I found was little kitty beating up the fat cat, chasing it away. Kitty was small, but she had a lot of fight in her. She was defending her territory.

And she ate.

I named her “Megamouth”. I thought it fitting for a little kitty who ate a lot and had a roar of a meow. Even her purr was loud.

We took Megamouth to the vet. She had no I.D. chip either. She was healthy.

We brought her inside and she found her way around. The two cats didn’t take a liking to Megamouth, but they left her alone as long as she left their things alone.

Mega loved sneaking under the sheets, finding new ways to crawl into my bed, stubborn and protesting as I would come to chase her out. She squeezed herself into the smallest of spaces in my closet. She made her bed in the sock drawer if it was left open just a crack.

And she ate.

Years later, we would find out that Megamouth had an allergy to fleas. One flea bite and she would be itchy scratchy and very uncomfortable. We took her to the vet and got her cleaned up and powered up to keep away the fleas.

Megamouth became my little nap buddy. She would fuss if I picked her up, protesting but not getting anywhere as she remained so skinny. But lie down for a nap, and she was right next to me, pushing her small body up against mine, making sure she was comfortable.
____________________________

One night, I noticed that she was fussier than ever, more stand-offish than ever. She was gasping to breathe. She wouldn’t eat or drink. She fought off sleep.

I took her to the doctor. And then I had to take her to another doctor.

Her lungs were filled with fluid. We could make her more comfortable, but it looks like cancer that would take her quickly.

Dad cried. I tried not to cry in front of Megamouth but who was I kidding. It was the toughest decision of my life.

I held her in my arms. She looked up at me and took her last breath. It all happened so quickly, and she was gone.

It was February 10th, 2014. A Monday. The staff of the VCA Animal Hospital in Waipahu were so kind and caring to Megamouth and our family. They went beyond what I had thought about animal care, sending a handmade card that included warm sympathies, a tuft of Mega’s soft fur sealed in a pouch, and prints of two of her paws. I highly recommend the VCA Animal Hospital.

We brought her ashes home.

She was never really mine, but I am hers.

Healthy Go: A Look In The Mirror

Movement(s)
One day-
At least 3 sets each of: skaters; leg lifts x12; plank knee-to-elbow x8 count; bicep curl into shoulder press x8, 10# each. I think I did at least 4 sets of each, but I didn’t keep count after 3. I did the 3 or 4 sets at one time.

Besides doing a workout, I am making it more of a habit to do things in between… life. When I get up from the computer, I will do something that warms me up and gets my heart rate up, and then do weights or pushups, something. I’ve been doing this during the commercials, watching “American Ninja Warrior.”

I’m starting to push towards my limits more, to see how strong I am, safely; it’s why I do the extra sets at times, why I did the extra sets the past week. I confess: lately, I wasn’t working out hard, or at least, I could’ve done more. It’s not good to work out until pass out, but I was definitely doing less in the exercises than I could have. I used to really work out, when I would work out, and feel great the next day. Where one knows they did something, made the most of the workout. So that’s what I want to get back to. I don’t like me timid. I need to roar! Well. Eh.

The day after doing the workout mentioned above, it felt good. My muscles weren’t overworked and pained, but I could feel that I had done my body justice with the workout. I felt stronger, more capable. I want to continue having that feeling, so that I couldn’t possibly forget it.

Not much else this week. Earlier in the week, for a few days, I was dealing with intermittent nausea. A couple nights, my leg was a bugger, so I wasn’t sure about doing too much standing stuff. I am almost certain now that environmental changes affect me. Vog days give me a crazy headache and nausea. We’re experiencing some storm weather, and I have a headache, plus some lame leg ache. I don’t know if I can attribute the recent nausea with the storm weather. I’m probably going to be one of those elder folks who can predict the weather by the ache in their knees, exciting!

Feeding(s)
It’s definitely not been a mostly healthy eating week, by content (I maintained proportions). A birthday happened (not mine) and so we had some steak and shrimp with rice one day, and then spicy ahi donburi with garlic salmon nigiri another day. And a frozen ice cream (?) from BK. And a milkshake.

Also eaten: almonds, garlic salmon (non-sushi), cheese puffs, veggie stix, Jamba Juice, iced tea, much water, artichoke, Fage Greek yogurt with honey, feta mushrooms.

The Veggie Stix was okay; I prefer the Veggie Chips. The Smart Puffs Baked Cheese Puffs were good; I liked them better than the regular Barbara’s Cheese Puffs, of which I prefer the White Cheddar Baked Cheese Puffs. I like cheese puffs.

A Look In The Mirror
Sometimes, I stop in front of the full-length mirror and have a good look. I usually do this as I’m changing clothes. I don’t know why I started or why I do it so often, as if I’m going to catch my body changing.

I tend to look at my stomach. Was it a year ago, 2 years ago? I noticed that my belly was starting to fold over. My clothes cut into my hips. I just wasn’t comfortable in that body.

The good part of these minor mirror checks has been that they do remind me that my body has changed. My belly still sticks out, but it no longer folds over. My clothes still cut into my hips, but not as much. It reminds me that I am doing better than I was back then. It reminds me that the change that I seek is happening as I continue on this journey.

Hang on to this journey, Jenn, just keep going.

I’m going slower than others. I’m going at my own pace.  I’ve stalled entirely at times. As long as I keep going.

No quit.

I hope that you’re still going too! No quit!

Too Many For Two Lips: Organizing My Lip Products

I have a problem. I have too many products for my lips. The collection was becoming quite unruly.

I blame an episode of “Full House” for my urge to have soft lips all the time. Not really.

Recently, I made a purchase on Amazon and needed to add a $5 item in order to receive free shipping. Taking a scroll through my fat wishlist, I decided to add on a lipstick organizer.

The Lumsing 3-tiered, 18- lipstick holder that I just bought will hold any of the lip products that I have - yay! Previously, I bought a 12-lipstick flat holder from a local drugstore, but it only held standard-sized lipsticks; I have a few products by Maybelline and Sei Bella that didn’t fit into the holder.

With the new holder, I am able to easily see and reach for 30 lip products!

In the tiered holder, in back, I placed the products that wouldn’t fit in the flat holder: Maybelline Vivids lipsticks, Revlon Moisture Stains, and Sei Bella lipsticks. Then I filled in the rest of the tiered holder with some of the products that I like: Maybelline Color Whispers, Revlon Lip Butters, and Milani Color Statement lipsticks.

The flat holder in front is holding a few of my top products and other products that I’d like to use up next. The top products are the MAC lipsticks, a MAC dazzleglass, Rimmel Show Off lip lacquer, and a Revlon Moon Drops lipstick.

Now that I am able to find and reach for something without knocking other things over, I have been reaching for the use-up products more.

… And I still have about 10 products not in the holders. Sigh.

At least I’ll be ready for the kissing! But, DON’T kiss me, please. I just like being prepared, is all.

Sigh. I need to stop typing.

Healthy Go: Getting Equipped

Nike Fundamental Mat 3mm

Movement(s)
One day:
Jump rope, ~5 minutes total; pushups, 2 sets of 8; leg lifts, 2 x12; bicep curls, 10# wts., 2 x8; shoulder shrugs, 10#, 2 x8; side lateral raises, 10#, 2 x8; twisting plank, 2 x8 each side, alternating.

For the side lateral raises, I did them cautiously. Mom is borrowing my 3# pair, which would be rather easy for me anyway. I have no idea where the 5# pair is - probably somewhere outside and lost for good. So, I did the raises with the 10# as high as I could, and slowly, without going over my abilities. Surprisingly, I was not overly sore the next day. Another example that I am probably stronger than I think I am, just gotta keep working on those raises.

During the week, I walked the dog twice. Every so often, I have been working on my squat form, in front of the mirror. I think I did other exercises also, but I guess I didn’t write them down or I don’t know where I wrote them down.

Feeding(s)

The local store had some healthier snacks on sale, ones that I wanted/ to try. I picked up a bag of Veggie Chips, Veggie Stix, and Smart Puffs Baked Cheese Puffs. I really like cheese puffs, if you haven’t noticed.

Potato chips are a part of my weakness, so it was good to have a healthier alternative on hand. The Veggie Chips are lighter, less salty, and just as crunchy and tasty as potato chips. Though these chips are tasty, it is easy to put the bag down after a few chips, but I also don’t feel guilty if I eat a little more than I had intended. I first had these at my friend’s house; I had so many of the chips that they gave me a bag of it for my birthday!

I’ll report on the other snacks later, after I’ve had them. Sometimes, I make sense.

Other grinds of the week: salmon, feta bella mushrooms, almonds, jasmine green tea, spaghetti, baked white cheddar cheese puffs, orange chicken, mushroom chicken, chow mein, angus steak slices, fortune cookie, ramen with egg, bananas, Belgian dark chocolate, cough drops, lemon iced tea, and much water.

Measurement Report

It’s the first Friday of August - ahhhhhhhkk!

I took my measurements today. Not much change from the previous month, or the month before, or, actually, from the beginning of the year. Sigh. I mean, my chest and waist have gone down a couple inches since the start of the year, and now I’m pretty much just maintaining. At least I’m not gaining, but I’m far from my next goal… ehmm… whatever it had been. I don’t even remember, that’s how bad I am at the moment.

So… new goals…?

More water, less liquid calories, move more, more muscle.

A more measurable goal: to fit in an old pair of jeans.

I have a pair of lightweight jeans that sits at the hip. I can’t remember the last time I was able to fit into it. It is going to take a more concentrated effort to fit into them again than some of my previous clothes goals. A little more than a year ago, I was on an inch-losing trend, so clearly I have the tools to do more of it. I’ve been distracted, down, tired, etc.

It’s always a good time to get to task.

Getting Equipped

I’ve done it - I have purchased a workout mat.

Mom was looking for a mat for herself; she has an exercise group once a week. I took her to TJMaxx. While she was picking one out for herself, I decided to go ahead and get one for myself. I chose the Nike Fundamental Mat 3mm, at a third of the original price. It is a dual-textured foam (aquamarine/ forest green), with added traction, and comes with a carry string. It’s very lightweight. I haven’t used it yet, but I am excited to try it out.

I’ll be using this in the garage, so it is going to get dirty and fast! One can see my dirty footprint has already made an impression (yes, I often walk around barefoot, and then I step on something pokey).
